Shopping & Pictures

I had another lovely time shopping today. I stopped at Catherine's after work to look at their clearance rack. I tried on 2 sweaters. One of them, the one in the picture, was a 1x.

The other was a 0x....that's a FUCKING zero! I didn't know what 'zero' meant but tried it on anyway...it fit! A little more snuggly than I usually like, but the buttons didn't gap or pull and it didn't bunch. I took it off and put it back on the hanger. I turned and looked at the tag and...saw...the...size.

14/16.

Holy Buckets!

I'll take a picture in that sweater tomorrow or this weekend.

For now, here's these. Almost 9 months out and down from 4/5x pants and shirts to 1x shirt, 22 skirt. Yay me!

I Have To Poop

As you may or may not have read on my husband’s blog, we had an outing today. Every year, the company I work for gives us tickets to go to Valley Fair (an amusement park for those too lazy to clickie :P).

I went 2 years ago with a co-worker but was too big to get on anything but the Ferris Wheel. I tried to get on one ride, couldn’t get the bar down, and practically ran off the ride and tried to keep the tears in check until my friend got off. The last time that I went to an amusement park before that was in 1997 or 1998. I was able to get on one roller coaster but the rest were a no go. Or, well I *think* they were probably a no go as I didn’t test it after the first one where the seat belt wouldn’t clip. I stood in the lines with my 2 friends that I went with and when the time came for them to ride, I would step to the other side and wait for them to get finished.

So this year, I guess you could say I had something to prove to myself. As of this morning, I’ve lost 144 pounds, and gone from a 5x shirt and pants to 22 pants and 1x shirt. I was terrified that I still wouldn’t fit, but I had to see. And having free tickets made it just the right price just in case it didn’t work.

Gary was decidedly unthrilled. He isn’t one for crowds, or rides, or anything where he feels his sense of control is lost. Just the two of us going would not have been a good idea, especially if I still didn’t fit on the rides. So I was able to get 2 more tickets from a girl at work who wasn’t going to use hers and I invited my sister-in-law and her fiancée along. She is like Gary, doesn’t like the coasters. But her fiancée, Scott, was ready and willing to make a go of it with me.

So, we headed out at around 11:00am and picked up Lynn and Scott and headed out...

Look! A Valley Fair sign!!

Oh...My...Gawd! I see coasters! I’m getting so excited!

We found a parking spot, got the cooler in the trunk situated and headed for the gates. Lynn had gotten sunburned on a commercial shoot earlier in the week so she decided to break out her Steel Magnolias hat to shade her tender cheeks...

We practically made a beeline for Wild Thing, Valley Fair’s most awesomely awesome coaster (which I don’t have a picture of) and handed some things we did not want flying loose or getting damaged while we were screaming and hanging on for dear life to our better halves and Scott and I headed for the line. It was, amazingly enough, not long and we got on almost as soon as we got to the cueing area. I was severely stressing out about whether or not the belt would clip and the bar would secure so I didn’t really have time or the chance to be nervous about the ride itself.

Wild Thing is a steel track coaster which boasts (taken from Valley Fair’s website):

Out and back steel coaster with two "S" curves, one tunnel and a 360-degree spiral, tubular steel track; Longest low-gravity section of any coaster in the world; 1st Hill: 207 feet, 2nd Hill: 103 feet
3rd Hill: 130 feet, 4th Hill: 103 feet.

Basically what that means is that after you finally get to the top of the first hill when the ride really starts, you are almost completely parallel to the ground on the way down for 200 feet. What is left of my stomach was left up on top of that first hill, right next to the little yellow flag.

Yes! That’s right! I FIT ON THE RIDE!! I didn’t even have to struggle to get things buckled and clamped! It was amazing and the most awesome thing that I have ever done in my entire life. We went on it once more a few hours later and I also went on another coaster besides that one. The only one I didn’t go on that I tried to was an old wooden coaster and I didn’t go on that one because I was too tall! Not too fat! Too tall!! Not much I can do about that so I was totally cool with it.

Glowing from my successful ride...

Gary was too cool for school but much to his credit, did not bitch or moan the whole time about what a lousy time he was having...

We wandered around some more, ate some stuff, then decided that it was getting to be time to go. But so that Gary’s day wouldn’t be a total washout, we hit the go-karts on the way out...

Lynn was obviously very excited and couldn’t find the steering wheel.

Scott seems a little worried because Lynn is directly behind him...

Gary is just beside himself with disgust at what a horrible time he’s having...can’t you tell?

http://arcofdescent.org/kathysblog/vfi.jpg

It’s like he thinks he owns the road or something...

Scott is happy that Lynn finally found the steering wheel and lets her pass so he can keep an eye on her.

We all had a pretty good time and as far as I know, nobody got horribly sunburned and nobody spent more money than they could afford to (except almost us...Goddamned arcade). Oh and I kicked Gary’s ass in air hockey. Booya!

Driving home was much less stressful than driving there and we were back in no time to some familiar territory.

Thank you, Dr. Rupp for making it possible for me to experience today. It was a wonderful day that I won’t soon forget. As if to put an exclamation point on how blessed I felt, I turned to face the park after we had walked out to the car to go home and was greeted with the following sight. God was looking down on us today and smiling. So thank you, God too for making today so lovely.

Oh, and the title is what was written on the back of this old guy's t-shirt that we saw today. Hella funny.

The Magic Hour

It's 11:30 on a Sunday morning. 11:30 can almost not be qualified as morning anymore, except for on a Sunday. Something about the space/time continuum gets aligned just right (or just enough out of whack, depending on your perception) that the ‘morning’ time on Sunday extends until at least 1:30-2pm. Depending on your home life, Sunday mornings can consist of spending hours reading the paper, actually finishing a pot of coffee, heading out to Denny’s for an early (or not so early) breakfast, making waffles in your kitchen while your kids try to dissolve the frozen lump of orange juice concentratey goodness with the large wooden spoon that belonged to your great grandmother that has settled on the bottom of the orange juice pitcher because you forgot to take it out of the fridge on Saturday night.

Point is, there is something magical, almost mystical, about Sunday mornings. Like I said in the meme thingie that it took me way to long to post about before, one of my favorite things is Sunday morning. As I type this, my ‘family’ are all asleep. I would post a picture because it’s too fucking cute for words, but my husband would kill me. For those who did not see the picture I posted of our living room, our couch and our loveseat are arranged in an upside down ‘L’ shape, with the loveseat of course being the smaller of the two sides. My husband is asleep on the loveseat, feet dangling off the arm. Giz is laying above him on the back of the loveseat curled up in a little ball with her tail just under her chin (and blessedly quiet for the first time all morning). Tabby is laying on the couch, on the cushion closest to daddy, just sort of sprawled out.

This weekend has not exactly been what any of us would have hoped for, or planned for over the past week. Gary has been sick since Thursday night when he started getting sniffly. Giz is of course in heat again and Tabby is being her usual bitchy self. I feel bad for all of them because Giz makes everyone else miserable when she’s in heat because she won’t shut the fuck up and stop knocking things off of assorted household surfaces, Tabby is just a general bitch and won’t stop swiping, hissing, and growling at Giz, and Gary cannot stop coughing. I wince every time he does because I can practically hear the force of it ripping through his throat and chest. And then of course there’s me...typing this half blind because I haven’t been able to put my right contact in since last Wednesday because once again my eye is acting up. And I have no glasses (or at least none that are the right prescription anymore). That was one of the things we were going to do this weekend was go get glasses. That’ll have to wait 2 more weeks.

Still, with all of that, as I look over my left shoulder at my family peacefully slumbering away this most magical of times, I cannot help but be eternally grateful for the blessings I have received. My home is a happy home. It may not be a rich home. It may not be a ‘full’ home. It may not even be a ‘satisfactory’ home in the eyes of many. But it’s happy, it’s mine, and it’s the best place in the world to be.
